The First Eight: A Personal History of the Pioneering Black Congressmen Who Shaped a Nation

Date:   3.10.26

Author:   Rep. James E. Clyburn

Interviewer:  Natalie Y. Moore

Time:  7:00 P.M.

Location:  Evanston Township High School

Program Info:

We're honored to be hosting legendary South Carolina congressman Jim Clyburn for his new book about the 8 Black congressmen from SC who were elected after the Civil War and the many challenges and obstacles they faced during and after Reconstruction. It would be nearly a century before the next Black representative was elected in SC, Clyburn himself. What an amazing opportunity to attend an in-person event highlighting a brilliant leader offering a long view of history. And of course Natalie Moore (WBEZ; Chicago Sun-Times; NU Medill) will do a brilliant interview, as she always does. Not to be missed.
