8th Grade: The Next Step

Most students who graduate  from Highland Middle School attend Libertyville High School.  During student's eighth grade year,  several events happen to prepare  and celebrate students for this next journey.  Important information for 8th grade families will be placed on this page throughout the school year.

8th Grade Student Graduation Guide - Students are issued this packet near the end of the school year, containing all the information they need about end-of-year activities. 

8th Grade Graduation Ceremony Information & Ticket Request Form - Use this form to request Graduation Tickets by May 1st, 2026.

8th Grade Picnic & Graduation Practice Permission Form - Parents need to fill out this form by May 22nd, 2026.

8th Grade Graduation Party Information Letter - This letter has information about the end-of-year party and ceremony.

8th Grade Diploma Form -   8th grade parents should fill out the 8th grade Diploma Form in the fall. 

 

Important Dates

  • August 10, 2026: First day of  high school
  • August 5, 2026: Freshman Orientation with Link Crew from LHS
  • June 1 - June 25, 2026: Registration for the 2026-2027 school year at LHS
  • May 28th, 2026: 8th-grade Graduation Ceremony at LHS Gym, 7 pm.
  • May 28th, 2026: Graduation Practice @ LHS, students are released early.
  • May 28th, 2026: Last day of school for 8th graders.
  • May 27th, 2026: 8th-grade Graduation Practice & Picnic at Adler Park.
  • May 26th, 2026: 8th-grade Graduation Practice & Awards, *gowns & tickets distributed to students 
  • May 15th, 2026: Graduation Party & Dance at 7:30 pm.
  • May 8th, 2026: 8th-grade Motion Madness Field Trip to Six Flags
  • May 1st, 2026: Graduation Ticket Requests due.  
  • April 9th - 12th, 2026: Washington DC Trip for 8th grade
  • March 12, 2026: 8th Grade Activities & Athletics Fair
  • January-February 2026: Course selection for the 2026-2027 school year
  • January 26, 2026: Choice Zone Family declarations due to LHS
  • January 5, 2026: Deadline to set up the D128 PowerSchool account. (You will not be able to complete course selection until this is completed.)
  • January 8, 2026, 6-8 pm: LHS 8th Grade Orientation Night for 8th grade students and their caregivers
  • December 2025: PreACT results will be shared with 8th grade families

 

High School Information

District 128 will communicate directly with 8th grade families. 

Whenever possible, we will collect information from Libertyville High School and post it here for your convenience.

LHS LHS Additional Admissions Information - Information about creating a PowerSchool Account for District 128 as well as other important admissions information, can be found HERE

LHS Registration Information - Parents can access registration information and more by clicking HERE. 

Libertyville High School (LHS)  PreACT - Current 8th grade students who live in the District 128 boundary are automatically registered for this important high school placement assessment.  For more information, click HERE.
