Busing

Busing is provided by Lakeside Transportation free of charge to students who live further than 1.5 miles from school or must cross a street that the state has identified as hazardous. Busing routes are posted in student PowerSchool accounts shortly before the school year begins.

Students who do not qualify for free busing may purchase busing for the year, payable in advance. Information on the Pay-To-Ride Program can be found on the Student Form page or here.

If you have questions regarding busing, please contact the school office.

Drop Off & Pick Up

Arrival time (8:15 am - 8:45 am) at Highland is one of the busiest parts of the day. With hundreds of students, cars, and buses all moving at once, it is important that we follow the same procedures to keep traffic moving and, most importantly, to keep everyone safe. The map LINKED HERE is designed to give families a clear picture of where to go and what to expect in the morning.

Making sure students arrive at school safely is our top priority. Morning traffic around Highland can be very busy, so we have clear procedures in place to keep cars moving smoothly and students safe. This map shows the traffic flow for arrival and student drop-off.

Parents dropping off students must be traveling westbound on Rockland Road. Drop-off takes place only on the north side of Rockland near the athletic fields. Please look for staff members who will be out front to guide you into the correct drop-off area.

For safety, there is no student drop-off allowed on the south side of Rockland, Ash Street, Oak Street, or Circle Drive. These areas need to remain clear during arrival.

There is no right turn or left turn onto Oak Street from Rockland during arrival times. Signs will be posted, and this helps reduce congestion and keep traffic flowing smoothly.

Buses have their own designated lanes and loading areas. Bus areas are for buses only.

If you need to park, use the staff and visitor parking lots. Parking on the west side of Ash and Oak Streets is restricted during school hours.

Crossing guards and crosswalks are marked on the map to help students arrive safely. Please follow their directions at all times.

All of these procedures are designed with one goal in mind: the safety of our students, families, and staff. Thank you for doing your part to keep morning arrival safe and efficient for everyone.

Students are assigned a bus route through the school if they are not within walking distance of the school.  Bus route/stop information can be found on student schedules in PowerSchool.

If you have questions about your student's bus route, contact the main office at Highland Middle School.
